What is the Shahadah?
The Shahadah is the first and most important of the Five Pillars of Islam. It’s a statement of belief that shows you are a Muslim. By saying it, you declare that there is only one God, Allah, and that Muhammad (ﷺ) is His Prophet.
In Islam, God (Allah) is understood as One, Unique, and Eternal, with no partners or equals. Allah is Merciful, All-Powerful, and beyond human comprehension, yet close to us and aware of everything we do.
Islam encourages Muslims to be generous and compassionate towards those less fortunate. Acts of charity, whether financial (Zakat and Sadaqah) or through kind deeds, are central to Islamic teachings, as giving fosters empathy and strengthens the community.
Kindness extends to all creatures, and Islam instructs Muslims to treat animals with care. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) mentioned that a person was forgiven for giving water to a thirsty dog, showing that acts of mercy towards animals are beloved by Allah.
Islam emphasizes the importance of family bonds and treating loved ones with respect, kindness, and patience. The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said, "The best of you is the best to his family," urging Muslims to show care and gratitude towards parents, spouses, children, and relatives.
Islam sees all Muslims as one family and encourages a sense of brotherhood and sisterhood. The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "None of you truly believes until you love for your brother what you love for yourself," promoting empathy, unity, and selflessness among people.
We understand that you may have countless questions and worries as you navigate your spiritual journey.
Know that seeking knowledge is an act of worship in itself, and Allah invites us to learn and grow closer to Him.
The first revelation to our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was:
اقْرَأْ بِاسْمِ رَبِّكَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ
"Read in the name of your Lord who created."
Quran 96:1
